TOP SECRET Approved For Release 2003/12/10 : CIA-RDP63-003t3A000500100061-9- L/ D OPY4 o f _[1_ MEMORANDUM FOR: AFIGO-S k n.~ wvv Headquarters USAF SUBJECT: OXCART Pilot Nominees (Group D) REFERENCE: Memorandum for the Record from AC/I}PD-DD/P; dated 16 January 1961; subject: OXCART Pilot Recruitment Criteria (OXC 1266) 1. The adequacy of the nine A-12 pilots "on board" to support planned mission requirements ehasbeen recently re-examined. Realizing that errors may exist or changes may develop in the planning assumptions used to determine the exact number of A-12 pilota required, it has been concluded that initial steps should be taken to establish an A-12 pilot nominee pool. A-2 pilot nominees will be processed to the point of recruitment (security, physical, psychological assessments), at which time a re-evaluation of the over-all A-12 pilot requirement will be undertaken and further recruitment initiated as deemed necessary. 2. The A-12 pilot nominee l should provide for three to four additional A-12 pi ootts. Past 'experience has shown that approximately five pilot nominees should enter assessment for each A-12 pilot who is ultimately recruited. Accordingly, approximately twenty nominees should be identified and programmed to undergo pre-recruitment assessments. 3. It is requested that this office be furnished the Officer Selection Folders and a current flying hour breakdown for twenty (20) additional A-12 pilot nominees. In order to meet planned assessment schedules, this information is required by 15 September 1963. Nominees should possess the prerequisite qualif icat i s established in reference memorandum. 10--Ol/ 144--l 151 FOR THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR (SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY) BY: JACK C.
