SUBJECT : Daily Activity Report - 9 September 1963
Mission Status
a. IDEALIST - The U-2 detachment at Edwards Air Force Base,
California is in standby status,
b. BRASS KNOB Three U-2 mission* were flown over Cuba as
follows: 6 September,70% target coverage, 3713, no reactions. 0 Sep-
tember, 3714, 65% target coverage, no reactions. 3715 was launched
on $ September and &boarded shortly after take off due to mechanical
trouble. A spare aircraft was launched successfully with 65%6 target
coverage and no reactions.
. OXCART Flight Status:
a. Aircraft #121 (J-58 engines) made flight #79 on 7 September for
a duration of fifty-five minutes. Maximum speed was Mach 2. 53 and an
altitude of 67, 000 feet. The purpose of this flight was to evaluate in
cremeental by-pass door operation in conjunction with flight roughness
investigations. The instrumentation tapes of this flight are under study.
