Decreasing switch points burnt shut which in turn caused film drive to stop. Shutter failed half way through mission. Due to failure of wind motor. Shutter and motor had 8.475 cycles since M & O. Camera failed on the fifth 30-second cycle test prior to mission run. Faulty solenoid and timing problem. Vacuum valve plunger and cavity were dirty and worn. Faulty assembly replaced. First indication of failure of tension sensor assembly. Wind motor replaced. Faulty- item returned to HYCON for further analysis and recommendation. Vacuum valve replaced. Maintenance inspection of solenoid immedi- ately reduced from 25,000 cycles;, to 10,000 cycles per discussions with HYCON. Arrangements made Approved For Release 2003/0 4! Shutter was not tripping in position 3L due to intermittent 25X1A break beneath insulation of shutter cable "A" ground wire. Basin Valve assembly cleaned and adjusted as per HYCON instructions but mal- function not corrected. 25X1A 25X1A China - Unknown Vacuum Valve Assembly Szechivan total cycles 9301. er+to+Dand to give tech- nical assistance to field reps and to analyze field main- tenance procedures. Replaced faulty ground wire. Condi- tion failure relayed to for info and action connection his trip to Replacement of cycle shutter cable ordered reduced to 25,000 cycles. Replacing of faulty part with new nickel sleeve solenoid valve assembly. NOTE: Subseque flight tests at and with nickel sleeve so enoid re- port no apparent camera malfunction.
