Tompkins Co., is the low bidder ff on the con tr c to erect the Cen- tral Intel'igence Agency's huge headquarters at Langley. The Tompkins bid of $32.1.10,- 000 was lowest of 13 bids open- ed yesterday. Francis Tompkins, senior vice president of the company, lives in McLean. Mr, Tompkins said that he had been qdvised by officials of the CIA that his firm has a good chance to get the contract award. ENGINEVRS of the CIA are now going over the various bids, including alternates, in which, the Tompkins Co. was ,also low. CIA has an appropriation of $58,000,000,, and only about $5,- 000,000 is understood fo have been allocated so far in archi- tectural. plans and the construe- tion of the foundations, now underway. Next to the Tompkins low bid was that 'of . John McShane, Inc. for $32,976.000. The third low bidder was the McCloskey Co., of Philadelphia, at $32,993,000.
