In a broadcast devoted mainly to the US foreign aid
program, Mr. Lewis made a passing reference to Radio Free
Europe as follows:
... We are officially embarking upon a program of
supporting the Communist dictators and helping them to
keep those tragic people under continued tyranny and
misery. There is no other interpretation possible. It
is that and clearly that we have undertaken the exact
policy for which Radio Free Europe and the Voice of Amer-
ica have been flying experimental kites for more than two
years, and while denying that they are doing so, that
a Communist dictator is all right as long as he is not
a Russian Communist dictator.
