SUBJECT Request for Discontinuance of the Preparation
of SSU Efficiency Index.

1. The Efficiency Index was originally preEp red on OSS for the Chief,
MIS and was continued for SSU. At the present time neither the Efficiency
Index nor the Detailed List of Evaluations used in its preparation are
transmitted to the field as is done vrith those of the Military Attaches.
2. The preparation of the Efficiency Index for SSU involves approximately
the same amount of tinge as that required for the preparation of Efficiency
Index for all Military Attaches.
3. In addition to the time consumed by Analysis Branch in the preparation
of this report the individual researchers must evaluate several hundred
documents weekly. A request has been made by Information Control for Planning,
Intelligence Group, that the researchers be permitted to discontinue the
evaluation of SSU reports. The researchers could then devote more time and
care to the evaluation of IA reports.
4. Because of the burden the preparation of the Efficiency Index places
on the Analysis Branch and the Research Branches, vrith the limited personnel,
it is requested that the preparation of this Index be discontinued.
