Approved For RVse 2005/12/1 tt.WI4-00658A000100080013-6 left PPsmem 23 April. 1946 Toint Any-Navy Intelligence Effort (Planning Directive No. 24 The undersigned has contacted Captain Sabalot for the Na !Lean for the Arn r and herewith. i s a report of the status 2. The Navy conclusions are in their memorandum for General raudenbOrg, 20 February 1946, and since that date there has been no further activity by the Navy on the subject. Colonel McLean states that MID has studied the Navy recommend- s and concluded that if a joint effort is to be made. it can be made on substantially the sane lines as those in the Navy report? However# the MID Board which studied the project recommended that no such joint effort be made unless and until there should be an actual merger of Armor and Navy under one command. This recommendation is based on the conviction that if ArzV and Navy remain separate# the chain of command and responsibility for intelligence becomes tangled and confused. 1. The conclusions and recommendations of the Board are in the bands of G-2 for action and action has yet been taken. (Colonel McLean is anxious that the lack of approval of the Board's recommendation be clearly understood.) 5. assumes that whatever the action by G-2,, there will subsequently joint committee of Are'', Navy and Air Forces to take cognisance of ie results of the Ark's and the Navyts stud of the subject, 6.. He further states that the 'recommendations for the areas of joint effort, if,a joint effort is required? were made before the recent reorganization of 0-2 and are thus out of -.:ate in. matters of detail, The undersigned did not attempt to secure a copy of the MID Board#a report.
