I am enclosing herewith two (2) copies of the amended contract
and wish to document our conversation of today.
I notified you of a probable overrun on the $11, 700 of Job 2684.
The cause of this overrun is outside of our control in that the
technical representatives are not satisfied with the calibration
of the overall system and are holding it for further tests and,
if necessary, rework. Such extended time requires, our people
and, in fact, overtime. The reason for this is not hard to un-
derstand when one realizes that they are attempting to make a
fairly precise measurement in an airplane with equipment that
has never been completely assembled in this manner before.
They are having problems of ambient temperature, airborne
conditions and just generally those associated with making any
new measurement. Since our function is to service the require-
ments of the technical people responsible, we have no choice
but to render the support requested.
I would like to state, however, that from my experience with
general instrumentation problems, that the delays and diffi-
culties are not unreasonable and can well be expected.
Our best estimate at this time is. that the salaries and wages
figure of $3, 600 will approximately double. We would ex-
pect no significant increase in M&S, G&A, Capital Equip-
ment or Per Diem.
I shall keep you posted if any further overrun becomes ap-
parent, but would appreciate a letter authorizing us to con-
tinue under the present amendment.
