SUBJECT: Clearance of Determination Order for Refugee
Assistance Act
On June 28, 1962 the President signed PL 87-510 the Refugee
Assistance Act of 1962 which provides authority for the continuation
of existing United States refugee programs and the provision of aid
in other refugee situations now developing.
In order that the Depa.rtrr.snt may proceed immediately to submit
appropriation requests to implement this Act, the President must
sign a determination order indicating which refugee situations are in
the national interest.
The attached determination order and related papers are submitted
to you for your urgent review and concurrence or suggestions for
changes.
Please call when you have completed
your review, or you wish to discuss any proposed changes in the
papers.
Inasmuch as we may have to submit the appropriation request within
the next few days, I shall appreciate your most expeditious review of
this material.
