arrangement he met with the four individuals referred to us by Mr. Mace
Broide, in the office of Senator Vance Hartke. The meeting was held
at 3:00 P.M. yesterday. said that the group (particularly

Department earlier in the day. He said called the White House

3. - GLC) Talked with Jim Hyde's office (BOB)
concerning the letter we had received from Representative Jack Westland
regarding a report from the Agency on H. R. 1845, Westland's proposal
for a Freedom Academy. (HCUA requested a report from us on this bill
last year and our reply has been in suspense pending BOB's approval of
our proposed report on a similar Senate bill, S. 822) Hyde's office indicated
that this matter still has not been resolved with the White House and Agency
reports submitted to BOB still have not been cleared. Mr. Hyde is to call
us back to provide guidance.
4. ~- JGO) Delivered to Mr. James J. Gehrig, in the
1 office of Senator Stuart Symington (D., Mo.). a blind memorandum dated
15 January and entitled Estimates of Soviet Heavy Bomber and Tanker
Strength Since 1956. A document receipt was obtained.
5. I I- JGO) Delivered to Miss Maureen Dantzic,
Senate Armed Services Committee staff, 50 copies of Mr. McCone's
biographic outline for the Committee's use.
