2. - JSW) Jim Gehrig in Senator
Symington's office telephoned inquiring when was the latest estimate
which dealt with capability to acquire inventory of ICBMs.
After checking with Mr. Stoertz, he was advised that
December 1958 was the last such estimate.
3. JSW) Made arrangements with Senator
Jack Miller (R., Iowa) to see him tomorrow in connection with his
letter to Mr. McCone dated today (11 January 1962) on the Christian
Century article of November 15, 1961 concerning General Heusinger.
4. ( - GLC) George Murphy, Joint Committee
on Atomic Energy staff, called and said the Committee had scheduled
its hearings on nuclear testing for the 18th and 19th and would like to
have the Agency appear at 2:00 P.M. on the 18th. I reminded Murphy
that I had informed the staff that Mr. McCone was unavailable on the
18th and 19th since his confirmation hearings had been set on the 19th.
Murphy said he understood this and that Chairman Holifield was informed
of this but they hoped that since the confirmation hearings were scheduled
for the morning Mr. McCone might still be available in the afternoon. I
told Murphy I would pass this information on and be in touch with him.
5. - GLC) Gwenn Lewis, House Committee on
Un-American Activities staff, called and said she understood that we
had drawn a diagrammatic chart of the Soviet Communist Party organization.
She said such a chart would be helpful to them in connection with hearings
which the Committee has conducted and she requested a copy. I told her
I would look into this and be in touch with her.
