3. (Internal Use Only - GLC) I called to
advise that Mr. Lee and Mr. Creel, of State Department, and Mr. David
Mclfford, of Defense, delivered to Representative Reuss the classified
letter from State which constituted an interim answer to Reuss.t inquiry
STAT regarding (See Journal of 6 December 1962)
25X1 said the report he received indicated that Reuss may not feel
as strongly as on inall indicated and further meetings with him may
STAT not be necessary. I lalso advised that he had information to the
effect that Mr. McCone and Secretary Rusk have had discussions on this
subject. At the Director's request, EE is updating its memorandum on
the subject.
4. (Unclassified - GLG) After talking with OCI,
regarding the studies which are being prepared by the Agency for the
National Security Staffing and Operations Subcommittee, I advised Dorothy
Fosdick, of the Subcommittee staff, that the work we were doing for them
had been slowed down somewhat by the Cuban crisis., that our target date
was now 1 March for getting the material to the Subcommittee. She said
the timing was not the most important factor, adding that she would rather
have good material even if it took a little longer to prepare. We also
discussed the desirability of getting together around the middle of next week
to discuss progress to date. We are to call and arrange the timing on this.
