(Subsequentxy, ox~ 23 actober 1962, Saltonstall did telephone and I explained General. Carter had simply wished to make clear the chronology of events and. ti~a.t information vrhich was furnished at the White House briefing wa.~ not a.~c'ai1-~ ble at the time General Carter briefed hirn on 12 October. Saltor~stall stated that Mr. McCone's briefing was completely clear on the chronology and he had related the timing involved. He campletely understood our position. ) 2. (Internal Uae 4hily - JSV~) Met with Senator Stennis at General Carter's request and pointed out to him the specific chronology of events and when the infoxmation "rtad been secured and was available. V~hen General Carter briefed hin~ on 15 October the key information had ~ not been received. Senator Stennis understood completely the timing ',^ involved. He asked a few questions on the current status in Cuba including some of the figures involved. I brought him up to date based on Intelligence Memorandum. entitled "Evaluation of Gffen.sive Threat in Cuba which is dated 21 ?ctober igb2 and classified TDP SECRET. The Senator was very gr~steful for the Agency thinking of hirn and giving him the information. 3. (Internal Use Qnly - JG?) Discussed with Mrs, Esmond, in the office of Senator Dirksen, a letter transmitted today from Security, STAT from dated 25 September 1962.
