LEC: I3LY T IVE COUNSEL Fri day - 5 October 1962 Talked with Gerald Ford concerning the land told him frankly that while the individual had looked good to our irtervicwer and his record was good, when he had been examined by our medical people it was their opinion that he did not meet Agency standards based on a psychiatric evaluation. I indicated that, of course, we necessarily had high standards in this regard since individuals could be placed in positions subject to great strain. Ford added that he .h.o,ped we did have high standards. He said he appreciated our being frank with him and wanted our suggestions as to how he should advise the individual who had come to him asking Ford's guidance as to whether or not he should reapply in another year or so after ha had college under his belt. Ford inquired whether it would be inappropriate for him to reapply and I indicated that while very likely he still would not pass, nevertheless we would look at him and give hin'. appropriate tests if he reapplied. Ford said he would not encourage this with the individual but indicated he did not want to have to face up to trying to answer why the individual could not reapply. 2. met with senator Jacob K.
