1. I I The office of Representative Robert
Dole called and asked if we could provide any information for a constituent
inquiry on the reports of Soviet forces in Cuba. I suggested that they
merely reply to the constituent that they had checked with appropriate
agencies who indicated there was no evidence of combat forces in Cuba
but that a close watch was being kept on the situation there.
2. I IMrs. Maska, in.. the office of Assistant
Secretary F re Dutton, State Department, called and asked if our
Map Library could provide them with a copy of the map of Laos which
was used by the President at his press conference on the 23rd of March.
Mrs. Maska would like this to fill a request from Senator Hickenlooper.
Arrangements were made for the map (which was unattributed) to be
sent directly to Mrs. Maska.

I Returned to Alfred Nittle, Counsel
for the Commit ee on Un-American Activities, the line page proof of the
hearings of 24 and 25 May with our suggested corrections. Mr. Nittle
thanked us for our assistance and indicated that the hearings should be
printed within the next two weeks.

4. Met briefly with Mr. Dent, Administrative
Assistant to. Senator A m Thurmond. Mr. Dent apologized that he and
Mr. Buzhardt had been unable to confer during the week but that he would
call as soon as possible, probably mid-week next week. He also indicated
that left Washington last Monday on his way back
and that it was the office's understanding that
