1, Talked with Bob Smart about the timing
of a: meeting of the CIA Subcommittee of House Armed Services with the
Director pursuant to Mr. Houstonts conversation with Chairman Vinson.
I offered Mr. Smart the possible times of the mornings of Tuesday,
Thursday, or Friday of this week. He indicated probably it would be
Thursday or Friday and he will advise.

5~ Talked with Steve Moran, in the office of
Senator George. ma ers (D., Fla.), concernin his re uest far
a briefing of the Senator or himself on activities
(See Journal of 13 July.) I advised Moran that th s ma er a een
taken up with the Director who indicated he would like to discuss this
personally with Senator Smathers. Moran and I agreed that we would
leave this to the Director and Senator Smathers.

Committee s a , ca e o say at he had talked with Senator Russell
concerning our briefing of the Committee. Senator Russell indicated
it would be impossible to have the briefing this week and suggested
that we try to arrange it for the following week. Darden indicated that
the dates of 31 July and 2 August were not available as far as the
Committee was concerned. I suggested the possibility of VV'ednesday
morning, 1 August. We will work toward this date and be in touch
with Darden on Friday.
