JOURNAL
OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Friday - 20 July 1962
1. I I Mr. Gillead, in the Office of General
Counsel, Office of the Secretary of Defense, called to say that Mr.
Bartimo's meeting with John Conway on the staff of the Joint Committee
on Atomic Energy had been put over from today to Saturday.
2. Called Marion Czarnecki, on the
staff of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and told him that in
checking with our people on Representative Edna Kelly's request for
information on Soviet oil penetration in Europe and the role of
I learned that we had provided all the information
we had to the State Department and that it was my understanding that
State Department had been in touch with Mrs. Kelly. Told Czarnecki
that, therefore, it would be somewhat repetitious for the Agency to
cover the same ground. Czarnecki said it sounded like we were
trying to "duck his request" and asked if we would at least provide
him with a paper on the more recent information we had on this
subject. I told Czarnecki I would check further and be in touch.
I talked again with Jack Leahy, in the State Department, about
the possibilities of our providing Mrs. Kelly with precisely the same
information which the Department has already given her. Leahy
thought this was a good solution and r told him I would give it further
thought.
