SUBJECT: Request for Intelligence Briefing of Hebert Subcommittee
1. ORR, called and advised that he met
with Mr. Stuart Pittman and Mr. William P. Durkee, Assistant and
Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Civil Defense) and members of
their staff on Friday, May 31st, concerning Soviet civil defense and
Soviet fallout shelter program and briefed them. on these topics. A
tentative outline for the briefing was discussed and a tentative date of
26 June was agreed upon.
2. The staff study written by Philip W. Helleher, Counsel for
the Subcommittee No. 3, House Armed Services, appeared to
to provide a format for rebuttal-type presentation to
3. I Ialso advised that he goes on active duty
as a reserve officer on Monday, 10 June, and will be returning to
duty with the Agency on 24 June. The date of 26 June was selected
in keeping with absence on military duty.
