Approved For Release 2004/02/QC#:-DP65B00383R000400080003-9 22 February 1963 SUBJI T`: Suspect Cuban Refugees 1. The US Issigration.and Naturalization Service estimates that *Inc* Castro came to power,, about 28 Cu- ban nationals who had applied for entry to the United States were refused admission or were induced to leave during the investigative period because of information indicating scare subversive elements in their backgrounds. (INS does not specifically define the "investigative period, " and apparently keeps it sufficiently flexible to permit necessary investigation.) 2. la some cases the individuals concerned had been temporarily admitted to the United States on a "deferred decision" basis while investigations were in progress. In other cases individuals withdrew their applications when informed that their admission would be subject to completion of investigation. In most cases the applicant left either at once or within sev- eral days of arrival. 3. We know of no case of an individual formally admitted to the United States who has subsently been deported or expelled for connection with Castro subversive activities.
