SUBJECT: Trip Report - Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, and
Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, 12 - 16 May 1963

viewpoint, these facilities leave much to be desired for
a pre-strike base. Floor plans for these hangars are on
file in MD/OSA.
Base, Okinawa, and Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, during the
period 12 - 16 May 1963.
2. Kadena Air Force Base
a The mission at Kadena was to inspect the OXCART
facilities prior to acceptance from the Contractor. With
a few minor exceptions, the work was completed as requested.
Instructions were issued to the Contractor to correct the
minor discrepancies found. Overall, the Kadena facility
can be considered operational as a KC-135 staging base.

SS/OSA visited OXCART facilities at Kadena Air Force
1- Colonel Houser C. Wilson, AFIGO-S:
c. Sufficient liquid nitrogen is available to support
the OXCART Program. Storage for the liquid nitrogen is in
short supply; therefore, we will furnish 500 gallon storage
tanks for our use.

3. Eielson Air Force Base
a. The visit to Eielson was made to plan additional
construction. After contacting Colonel Jones, the Base
Commander, most of our time was spent with Lt. Colonel
Conti, the Base Civil Engineer, and his replacement, 25X1
Lt. Colonel Woy. A plan for the KC-135 OPS/COMMO facility

was developed and left with Colonel Conti. This plan is
presently being staffed within OSA. When completed, the
details will be forwarded to Eielson through AFIGO-S to
start construction.,
b. Instructions were given to Colonel Ball, the Base
"Jack's House" Project Officer to place our R-2 Refueler
in a temporary storage condition until it is needed by the
Project.
c. I made a survey of existing hangar 25X1
facilities; floor plans are on file within MD/OSA. It is
felt that the present hangars are not suitable for our use
due to the large number of shops and offices housed in
these buildings, i.e. base operations, control tower, etc.
