An open hearing on current plans for supplying
the electric energy requirements of the Stanford Linear
Accelerator project was announced today by Congressman
Chet Holifield, Vice Chairman of the Joint Committee.
The hearing will be held at lm:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
January 29 in the open hearing room of the Joint Committee
on Atomic Energy, U. S. Capitol, Washington, D. C.
In the hearings, the Committee will look into the

The Stanford Linear Accelerator project was authorized
by the Congress in 1961, at a cost of approximately $114
million. When completed in 1966, it will be the world's
largest electron accelerator. The first phase of the
Stanford project will require approximately 100,000
kilowatts of electricity.
Witnesses representing the Atomic Energy Commission,
Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Stanford University
and the City of Woodside, California and San Mateo County,
California, are expected to testify.
