JOURNAL OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Thursday - 16 April 1964 i. Met with Mrs. Eilleen S. Case, Administrative Assistant to Congressman Craig Hosmer (R., Calif.), concerning the Congressman's letter of 13 April to Mr. McCone requesting details relating to one II a United States diplomat, referred to by Guy Richards of the NEW YORK JOURNAL AMERICAN. I advised Mrs. Case that the Agency was not in a position to- comment on these articles. I did, however, provide her- with some background information on the I matter for the Congressman's information and provided a copy of the State Department release dated April 1964. Mrs. Case indi- cated that she understood the Agency's inability to comment and stated her belief that Mr. Hosmer would also. It was indicated that no written reply or other action by the Agency on this matter would be expected. Mrs. Case indicated in passing that the particular constituent who had been pressing on this matter had apparently gone to considerable expense and effort to learn as much as he had about the case. She indicated that he had not only furnished the name of the individual to the -Congressman but also provided the reference to the page and year of the State Department Biographic Register from which he had obtained a biography of the indi- vidual concerned. Mrs. Case will look to the Senate Judiciary Committee and State Department for any further information desired. 2. Mr. Ewing Hass, Administrative Assistant to Senator Thomas Kuchel (R., Calif.), called and requested advice on how :1 -1 25X1 F 1, California, should proceed 25X1 in applying for possible employment at the- Agency in the Far East. Mr. I lapparently served many years with the Navy and recently spent I Iwhere he had some association with 1 -1 25X1 Probably his desire is to- get back to the I advised Mr. Hass 25X1 that I would check and see if it would be possible for Agency people to con- tac in California and would be back in touch with him tomorrow. Met briefly with Virginia Pickett, Assistant to Representative William T. Cahill, and learned that the Congressman will continue to be absent from the city until early next week. I had advised Mrs. Daugherty of the Congressman's staff earlier in the week that I would be by to keep the Congressman advised in the (See Journal item of 10 April.) 4. As Mr. Samuel Archibald was called away from the office, I arranged to meet with him on Friday con- cerning his request to chat about the Committee handling of questions relating to use of the polygraph on personnel screening and for Agency advice and recommendation on psychologists and phychiatrists who might be considered by the Committee as possible witnesses during the present hearings. 5. After conversations with Mr. William Osborne of Security who consulted Mr. Bannerman, it was agreed that we would take to the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy, for their review, an "investigative 'file on F_ I From conversations with 25X1 Mr. Murphy today, it is believed that this arrangement will be acceptable to John Conway, JCAE staff director. In view of Committee hearings this afternoon we will be in further touch with the Committee staff tomorrow. 6. Talked with Mr. Bronson Tweedy and regarding Senator Dodd's interest in obtaining information on possible Communist assassinations as a result of their inquiry into the will work with CI Staff in preparing some material 7.
