Talked with Miss Natalie Martin, in the office of Senator George A. Smathers, concerning the Senator's letter requesting information on press articles relating to missiles in Cuba. Miss Martin said the Senator is not in town today but she will take the matter up with him and let me know when it would be convenient for me to see him. 2. Jay Sourwine, Senate Internal Security Subcommittee staff, called and said that if we have anything to do with they would like to have him before the Subcommittee at such time as he might be available. I advised Sourwine that we would note his interest and have advised with Sourwine said that our corrected transcript of the staff conference had been reprinted and was being sent to us for final approval with a request that sign a jurat at the end of the transcript and return it to the Subcommittee staff for publication. (This is in accordance with arrangements previously made.) 4. I advised George Murphy, Joint Committee on Atomic hmergy stall, that the NIE on the Soviet Atomic Energy Program had been printed and that a copy would be sent to him in the morning.1 Murphy said that the Committee would, of course, be interested in any information or summary of information obtained from in the area of the Joint Committee's interest. Also worked on during the day was the sectional analysis which must be incorporated into the report. After learning of Senator Saltonstall's accident, Braswell checked into the matter and received information that in all likelihood the Senator would be in town tomorrow. Consequently, rather than find another Senator who could actually file the report, this will be held over until tomorrow. Mr. Braswell expressed his view that it would be far preferable if Senator Saltonstall could remain as the designated Floor Manager of the bill. 8. Met with Mr. Fred Mesmer, Senate Immigration and Naturalization Subcommittee, who advised that printed copies of the committee report probably would not be available until about Wednesday. He further indicated that although ordered to be reported on Friday, the bill probably would not be reported to the Senate until Tuesday or possibly Wednesday cc: Ex/Dir/Compt DD/S Mr. Chretien WARNER ,'JOHN Legis tive Counsel 50X1 50X1 50X1 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2014/04/15: CIA-RDP66B00403R000300010015-3
