(Internal Use Only - JSW) Jay Sourwine, Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, telephoned indicating Senator Dodd had turned over to him the pamphlet which the Agency had earlier made available dealing with Soviet terrorist activities. Apparently Senator Dodd had asked Sourwine to be in touch with us to see if each of the cases mentioned could be expanded. I told Sourwine we would look into this and be back in touch. 5. (Internal Use Only - JSW) Talked with Al Westphal, House Foreign Affairs Committee staff, regarding the possibility of extension of the statutory period for Westphal indicated that, of course, nothing could be done this year and suggested possible legislative approaches to be considered for next year if this appeared desirable. (A fuller memorandum on this will be prepared for DD/P. ) 6. Internal Use Only - JSW) Senator Symington telephoned on the case indicating that he had an understanding with Mr. Echols that no notification would be sent of rejection until Symington had had a chance to talk with him. I explained that this letter has not been sent and that I had taken the trouble to see that he saw it before it was sent and we would be glad to wait until he has had a chance to do so. Symington stated that it would be about two weeks before he could talk with In addition, Symington stated that his conversation with the Director on the case was most brief and that he would like to have the matter looked into more thoroughly. (I assume that he did not construe the Director's comments on the case as closing it and had anticipated getting a more detailed briefing.) Symington asked me to please look into this matter.
