1. This memorandum requests information from your
component.
2. Per Reference A and B the Department of State is
coordinating a review of policies relating to disclosures of U. S.
classified information (non-military) to foreign governments.
Reference B asks CIA two broad questions:
(1) Does the Agency have regulations,
policies and procedures which take cognizance
of the 1958 Presidential Directive on Subject?;
(2) Is the Agency aware of any instance
in which released information has been com-
promised or has not been properly protected
by recipient governments.
3. The Office of Security will handle the response to
question (1) of Reference B by outlining the regulatory controls
operative in the Agency in cases of disclosures of classified
information (non-military) to foreign governments.

4. To answer question (2) of Reference B, information
must be gathered from a number of Agency components, including
that under your command. Consequently, your cooperation is
requested in supplying the Office of Security, before 3 June, any
information known to you which would have relevance to an ade-
quate answer to this question.
5. The Office of Security, upon receipt of components'
replies, will prepare the Agencyts response to the Department of
State.
