Approved For Release 200 Effi: CIA-RDP66B00560R080100080Q5 DD/R-643-63 30 April 1963 MEMORANDUM FOR: AC/DCI SUBJECT : Security Clearances REFERENCE : Memorandum for C/SSC, from AC/DCI, dated Z5 April 1963, subject: same as above I have reviewed your request for additional clearances for the Co-ordination Staff and have discussed this with the Executive Director. At the present time we are making every effort to restrict the granting of operational clearances in this area to those who have a strict need-to-know in the course of their duties. Since the co-ordination of this particular aspect of foreign intelligence has been charged to the PRO, it is not clear that the DCI Co-ordination Staff need become actively involved in this program at this time. Therefore, until the DCI has determined that the Co-ordination Staff will become actively involved in this area, I believe it would be best to withhold additional clearances. It is possible that the other 5 who already have theme clearances could be debriefed unless they need them in the course of their other duties. In this way, we might succeed in keeping the number of clearances to the lowest possible level. (dictated but not read by) HERBERT SCOVILLE. JR.
