Approved For Release 3RDP66B00597R40020009-1 28 May 1965 BRIEFING NOTES FOR THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE SUBJECT: Chinese Communist Reaction Flown 28 May 1965 Mission C325C, 1. Mission C325C was flown on 28 May, between Swatow and Fu Chou, along the east China coast, opposite Taiwan. Coincidentally, the entire route lay within the Chinese Nationalist Air Defense Zone and the Chinese Nationalist Air Force had fighters on combat air patrol over Taiwan Strait at the time of the mission. Initial report from the pilot states that he observed no unusual activity, stating specifically he saw no intercept attempts. This is not unusual, in view of the fact that of all of the TACKLE missions, the pilot has witnessed a possible intercept attempt on his mission aircraft on only two occasions. 2. The number of Chicom aircraft positioned at the various airfields remains about the same as in the past, except the movement of additional aircraft into Lungchi and ossibl some high performance aircraft at the same airfield. i appears tRat aircra were scrambled against this mission from five different airfields. The numbers and types of aircraft cannot be determined until 3. We anticipate that Canton,.Hsing Ning, Liencheng, Fu Chou and Lungchi kept two fighters each on strip alert and we expect that when all of the information is available we will have noted at least ten fighters having reacted to this mission. Due to the fact that this mission did not penetrate the coastline to any depth, this reaction is about what we would expect.
