The viewer will be capable of displaying aerial photography limited at 200 lines per millimeter without degradation below 195 lines. The optical system for such a viewer must maintain resolution in excess of 400 lines per millimeter to obtain this capability. The work shall be conducted in two phases. Phase I shall be the basic design study in which all parameters of the system will be speci- fied and the basic design concept will be finalized. At the completion of this phase a detailed design plan will be submitted for approval. Contractor will not proceed with Phase II until such approval from the Contracting Officer is received. Such approval will be forwarded with- in two (2) weeks after receipt of the design plan. Contractor shall be entitled to an adjustment in the contract schedule for any delays upon the part of the Government in granting such approval. Phase II of this project will consist of the detailed engineer- ing necessary to bring the development to a point from which fabrication can be initiated. Drawings shall be suitable for manufacturing, but need not meet all of the requirements of military specifications. Because of the requirements placed upon the optical system extensive research and analysis will be accomplished by the optical engineer assigned to this task. The initial effort will be a market survey to determine the availability of suitable finite conjugate projection lenses. The lens selected will be subjected to bench tests to determine the operating characteristics of each. Contractor will test lenses supplied by the Customer in the same manner and coordinate with the Customer its decision on the finally selected lens.
