The following are the duties of the Chief of the Geographic Section
of Functional Branch when such section is activated:
1. Familiarize himself with current and projected activities of the
government agencies concerned with broad geographic problems and the prep-
aration and/or collection of maps and charts., including photographs re-
lated thereto. `
2. Study the basic directives of CIG, orient himself as to the in-
ternal organization and functions of ORE and make himself generally familiar
with the work of the Regional Branches.
3. Plan, initiate and supervise a program to provide:
a. For CIG to be kept informed of all activities, whether govern-
ment, private or foreign concerned with geographic and cartographic
intelligence;
b. CIG coordination or direction,.as appropriate, of those inter-
departmental projects covering his field of intelligence of common
concern to more than one government agency;
c. CIG with competent advice and the best attainable materials
concerned with geographic and cartographic intelligence;
d. Coordination and integration of research concerned with his
field in the Regional Branches; and
e. For a continuous study of the requirements for geographic and
cartographic intelligence so as to appraise the value of that re-
ceived in CIG and government agencies, and arrange for the procurement
of information and intelligence not available.
?i.. Act as adviser to responsible officers of CIG concerning his
field and serve as consultant to the Planning Staff and Intelligence Staff
of ORE with regard to geographic and cartographic intelligence.
5. Provide for such additional activities as may be required.
