1? In the absence of Mr. Frank Valeo
and Miss Peggy DeMichele, I spoke with Miss Dorothy Jones, in the
office.of Senator Mansfield and raised the question of our talking with
Senator Muskie since Senator Mansfield was unable to see us before his
departure from Washington. Later in the day, after talking with Mr. Valeo,
Miss Jones indicated that Mr. Valeo felt we should not contact any other 25X1
members of the Mansfield delegation. (See Memo for the Record)

alert us to the availability of two Cubans who had defected in Colombo
and would be arriving in Washington shortly. The defectors from the
merchant vessel
Talked with Bill Darden who indicated he had
been in touch with Senator Russell who had no requirement for any
briefings at this time. Mr. Darden also indicated that if at all -possible
they would prefer to have the Director brief the full Senate Armed Services
jointly with the Defense Subcommittee of Appropriations prior to the
beginning of the Defense posture briefings. He will advise further on
actual timing.

PreRaredness., He confirmed that only he and Glenn Smith shout receive
special clearances necessary for Agency briefings.
