Monday - 11 October 1965
1. I I Met with Mr. Darrell St. Claire, Chief
Clerk, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, in response to a request
to him from the De artment of State for a co of the
paper relating to Mr. St. Claire apologized
that his request to the Department had been made early on Friday before
he talked to me and at the time that he made his request, he was not
certain what paper he was talking about. He advised that the information
I provided him, that the paper o had been published in
the Congressional Record, satisfied his needs and that he would cancel his
request to the Department. He was most appreciative of our follow up.
CA Staff has been advised.
3. Met with Miss Marie Hershey,
Assistant to Congressman Harold R. Collier, (R. , Ill. ), in response to
the Congressman's telephone request that he would like further discussion
concerning correspondence with Miss
Hershey advised that they had received further letters dated October 7
which included copies of very brief letters had received from the
Department of Justice and the Bureau. After several tries to reach
Mr. Collier on the floor, an appointment was made to meet with him at
9:30 in the morning.
4. Miss Marnie Root, Assistant to
Representative Howard H. Callaway (R., Ga.) advised that Mr. Callaway
will be available 9:30, Wednesday morning for a defensive briefing on his
Soviet trip. The Office of Security has been alerted. See Journal item of
22 September.
