FROM:
SUBJ: System Seven
1. At the Headquarters System 7 meeting of 29 and 30 December,
several points and problems were brought out which we at Edwards
were to investigate or resolve as possible. The following is an
initial report on our progress.
2. Work on the noise problem will proceed at Edwards as
outlined in Edwards 2768 dated 15 January,
3. Q bay drawings requested by H.R.3. to locate pins and position
of the A frame were forwarded by L.A.C.
1. Access to the P-band antenna feed point does not appear to
be as great a problem as originally expected. Limited access (connecting
and disconnecting of equipments, etc.) is possible via upper access
doors just forward of the tail section. Where additional access is
required (installation of equipment, etc.) the tail section can be
removed. This is approximately a 3 hour job.
5. It was the opinion that if a communication system were
available to the pilot and could provide him with an accurate turn
on time, as much as 10 DB could be gained in sensitivity. It is the
opinion of the L.A.C. engineers who have had experience with the KWM_1
single-side-band transceiver, as well as my own personal opinion, that
the KW M_1 would provide at least a 75 percent reliable communication
link over the distances involved. It is requested that Headquarters
consider authorizing Edwards to purchase, and further test the KWM-l
for possible use with System 7. Collins Radio Company is presently
engaged in developing a Ail Spec version of the KWM_1.
