Point Mugu was told that we were through testing at their location and
thanked for their very fine help and cooperative spirit. and I 25X1
request that a fine letter of appreciation be sent to BuAer, Washington
commending the Navy on their excellent assistance supplied at Point Mugu.
Attached is a suggested letter.
Capt. Murphy and Major Githen asked if the results of the test and
the contents of tae box could be made known in some part at least to
personnel at Camp Mugu. I agreed to look into this and encouraged them
to believe that it would probably be possible. As in other developments
projects, I suggest that the contractor write a sterilized booklet at not
greater than secret level on the box and its technical factors. An addendum
to the booklet could then be written on the tests. Both the booklet and the
addendum can be written so that the classification will not be beyond the
ordinary secret level. It is suggested tha write the test
addendum. As your consultant, and I would be glad to review
the booklet and its addendum before publication in order to advise on how it
can be made most useful to the community.
A. We have data and a box that could be helpful to all U. S.
military interests. We should not deny the U.S. military
the benefits of our results.
B. It would serve to maintain our relationship with Mugu.
The master reels of data still exist at Mugu. What shall be done with
them? I have various pieces of data taken during the tests. Shall I send
them to you or destroy them?
