The Physiological Support Division (PSD),
strategic Reconnaissance Wing, Davis-Monthan AFB,
Arizona, was visited'on 21-22 November 1968 to exchange infor-
mation on the operation, maintenance and experience'gained
to date with U-2R life.support equipment.
2. Individuals Contacted at Davis Monthan AFB: Col.
Weller and Lt. Col. Howard DCO and Major Mahaffey,
Capt. McWilliams, and Mr. Tom Smith (PSD) were primary indi-
viduals contacted and with whom discussions were held.
3. Results: The chamber flight for was 25X1A
cancelled due to the subject coming down with'gastrointestinal
flu symptoms. This chamber flight has been rescheduled for
the week of 16 December at Castle AFB, Calif., under the
supervision of Det. G flight surgeon.
The visit and exchange of information with members of SAC at
Davis-Monthan was most beneficial. Specific details and
general background information provided by the undersigned
regarding pressure suit, seat kit, escape system design and
operation was greatly appreciated by their PSD personnel.
Likewise, many items and ideas regarding improved S-1010 PPA
utilization and maintenance were gained from their PSD personnel
which have been passed on to Det. G life support personnel.
Major Mahaffey, OIC of their PSD, was the only PSD member
holding an Idealist clearance. Since this individual is about
to retire, the undersigned will request OSA Security Staff to
approve clearances and briefings for the new PSD Officers,
Major Brown and Capt. McWilliams, because the exchange of`
information is essential and most effectively'accomplished
when unhindered by lack of project clearance.
