MEMORANDUM FOR: Assistant Director /Research & Reports
SUBJECT: Professor Bronislaw E. Matecki
1. The following report from E. M. Kirkpatrick, External
Research Staff, Department of State, may be of interest to you:
"Of possible interest to your operation is an interview
one of our members had with a Professor Bronislaw E.
Matecki at the recent conference of economists in
Washington. Professor Matecki stated that he was formerly
a councilor in the ministry of finance in pre-war Poland
(1936-39) and also a member of the exchange control board
and the board of trade. He further informed us that he was
minister of finance under the Polish Government in exile and
came to the U.S. in 1948. At present he is teaching economics
(financial and monetary) at Lynchburg College, Lynchburg,
Virginia. It is reported that he speaks Polish and Russian
and reads most other Slavic languages. In 1948 he said he
wrote an article on Soviet monetary policy for the American
Slavic and East European Review. We have not been able to
verify this as yet.
"If the sort of information this man could conceivably
have at his disposal is of interest to you, we should be glad
to discuss it further and to reveal to you what, if any, our
biographical section has on him."
