9.
In connection with the correspondence to
Admiral Tay or rom requesting a :
STAT
meeting during his stay in as ing on omorrow, a messa a was transmitted
that the
Agency was no longer in the business of subsidizin students and did not use
them for intelligence information.
25X1
had conveyed this message to ho appeared to accept it without

further persistence.
11. Talked with Jay Sourwine, Senate Internal
Security Subcommittee staff, advising him that the language which he had
proposed to add to Senator Eastland's defector bill indicating that this legis-
lation in no way impaired the authority of any agency, was acceptable to us.
I emphasized that we were dealing with him on an informal basis in this regard
and I could not predict at this point precisely what kind of formal report the
Agency would make on the bill, but anticipated it would be a "no objection"
reply.
called to advise me that, 25X1
at the request o AEC, he was performing a security review of the testimony
of representatives of the Livermoore and Los Alamos Laboratories before
Senator Gore's Disarmament Subcommittee. He said AEC had already made
some deletions in the transcript and he was making additional deletions. He
merely wanted to let us know what he was doing. I suggested that in 25X1
his dealings with AEC on this, AEC should make no mention to the Foreign
Relations Committee staff that this Agency had participated in the security
review. If the question arises, it may be suggested that the Committee
submit the transcript directly to the Agency for such review.
