Colonel Joe Clark, Air Force, called and advised that the
Secretary of Defense has received an unclassified letter from
Chairman Rivers indicating he would like to have Mr. McNamara
appear about 1 February or soon thereafter on posture hearings.
He indicated further that he intends to have the DCI appear before
that time. Colonel Clark was interested in whether we had
established a tentative date. I advised that we had not but are
awaiting the Chairman's pleasure. I also told him we would give
him a buzz as soon as we had an indication as to the time. I
