5, Called on freshman Congressman
William Scherle (R., Iowa) and provided him with a brief back-
ground on the Agency and our Congressional oversight committees
and noted our availability should he desire further information on
the Agency. Scherle was very much interested and I suggested that
if he cares to get together a small group of congressmen to come
to the Agency for breakfast and briefings, I would arrange it.
Scherle said he would try to get together a group of five or six.
Scherle said that during the briefing he and fellow freshmen had
my dropping by. Scherle said he was trying to be -placed on the
Armed Services Committee.

to obtain sufficient information on the Agency to do their job
properly. Scherle thought, in view of what I had told him, that

and to let him know of our availability should he require information
from the Agency. Nichols is a former military man, who was very
much relaxed about the Agency and who has had friends in the past
who worked for the Agency. Nichols was most appreciative of my
stopping by to see him.

Liaison Staff of AID, advised that Senator A. S. Mike Monroney's
interest concerning the

All material forwarded by Senator Monroney to us was sent to AID
with advice of this fact also going to Senator Monroney and
