I iRepresentative Edward Derwinski (R., Ill.) called, saying that he expected to go to Greece in the next two to two and one half weeks. Representative erwins ci. suggested that we ge together with im here sometime next week (he plans to leave on September 27). I told him I would check on this, and be back in touch with him, possibly tomorrow. 3. I uIn keeping with our earlier arrangement with Senator Thomas Dodd (D., Conn.), I called him to alert him to the fact that S. 1035 was coming up on the floor in the Senate today. The Senator said he was aware of this. I told him we are not asking him to do anything, but are merely following his request to do this. The Senator said, as he saw it, we are going to lose any chance for an amendment and he also said he thinks it best that he not be involved in this. In the course of our conversation, Senator Dodd said he had received disturbing information from someone who said that he had a tape recording talking about kidnapping somebody in the Congo (presumbly Tshombe). Senator Dodd said he had always had faith in the Agency and he still has faith in us, but that this kind of information is very disturbing. I told Senator Dodd I appreciated his telling us about this and that I would look into it and be in touch with him further. 25X1 Approved For Release 2004/05105 CI)4-RfDP69B00369R000100230090-1 Approved For'Relcase 2004/05/05: CIA RDP69??B00j369RO00100230090=1 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Tuesday - 12 September 1967 Page 2 4, met with Representative Ogden Reid R. , 154.
