JOURNAL
OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Friday - 18 August 1967
1, Talked to Bernard Martin, Bureau of the
Budget, concerning the Administration position on S. 1035. Martin said this
is a tricky subject and not to count on a veto should it pass. He felt the best
approach is to work for an acceptable bill in the House.
Met with Representative F. Edward Hebert (D., La.)
and discussed with him at some length 25X1
I Mr. Hebert appreciated the a vice an indicated that from all the
information he had received, matters have proceeded very similarly in this
activity.
3. In response to the request received from
Mr. John R. Blandford, C::i.ef Counsel, House Armed Seryi s C"or rn'ttee.,- met
with Mr. John T. Reddan, Special Investigation Subcommittee, and arranged
for times for our security personnel to meet with him prior to Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday sessions of the Subcommittee. Also met with
Mrs. Oneta Stockstill, Executive Secretary, and confirmed with her the
arrangements that had been made.
4. Spoke briefly with Senator Thomas Dodd by
telephone on the subject of the Ervin bill, S. 1035. I am to talk with him further
next week. I received the impression from the conversation that the Senator
had felt that the modified Agency amendment, which he had supported in Com-
mittee, would give us sufficient latitude to live with the bill. I told the Senator
that we still had serious problems.
