Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 3
Thursday -'18 May 1967
9. Dropped by the office of Congressman Richard
Schweiker (R., Pa.) and left with Miss Marilyn Hewitt certain material to
help a State Senator in the Congressman's district prepare a speech on
employment opportunities within the Federal Government. I reviewed this
material with Miss Hewitt and she said it more than answers the questions
raised by the State Senator.
10. Spoke with Mr. Ervin Jacobs, in the Social
Security Administration. Mr. Jacobs was on the staff of the Cabinet
Committee on Federal Staff Retirement Systems. He gave me helpful back-
ground on the "transfer of credit" proposal and a point of contact for technical
review of legislation in the General Counsel Office, HEW.
11. Met with Mr. Paul Nelson, Staff Director of
the House Banking and Currency Committee, and discussed with him the
handling of the questions raised with the Director by Representative Blackburn
in connection with the Director's briefing of the Committee on the proposed
Fiat agreement. Mr. Nelson suggested that since our response was classified
we send it to the Chairman with a request that it be handled as part of the
transcript of the briefing and under the same arrangements. We are to
prepare a letter to the Chairman to this effect.
