See Memorandum for the Record. 12, The Director, and John S. 25X1 Warner met with Representative Glenard Lipscomb for approximately an hour to discuss further the Fiat deal. discussed this situation in 25X1 quite some detail explaining the brochures of some of the equipment to be purchased in the U.S. and discussing capability and convertibility. The Director discussed the dilemma of any trade with the Soviet Union on the one hand and the gradual evolving of consumer demands over the long pull. Mr. Lipscomb seemed to understand this concept. Later Mr. Lipscomb expressed appreciation to me for having arranged the session indicating he had learned a great deal. 13. In follow up to his inquiry yesterday concerning I I met with Tom Gilbert, Administrative Assistant to Congressman Armistead Selden, Jr. (D., Ala.), and learned that Mr. Gilbert had made the inquiry on behalf of Congressman William L. Dickinson's office. Mr. Gilbert considers the matter closed. 25X1 14. Dropped off to Mrs. Reid, in the office of James A. McClure (R., Idaho), a brochure on the Agency in connection with a request for such information from a young constituent who is writing a paper on the Agency. 15. In the absence of Mr. Braswell, Senate Committee on Armed Services staff, from the city, left for him a proposed provision to be inserted in the Agency retirement act amendments to offset the 1 April 1967 scheduled annuity increase.
