Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2
Wednesday - 8 March 1967
9. Miss Ridgway, in the office of Representative
Barratt O'Hara, telephoned to see if she could secure for a constituent a
copy of the CIA report commonly known as the Fiat report. I advised her
that this report was included verbatim in a House Banking and Currency
Committee report along with their own discussion of this situation which
was released a week or so ago. I suggested that this would be of more
assistance to the Congressman's constituent. She agreed.
11. Harriet Robnett, in the office of Senator
Stuart Symington, called on behalf of the Senator inquiring when we would
have the paper ready on Iran which he had requested of Mr. Critchfield.
After checking, I advised that, hopefully, this would be ready some time
tomorrow morning.
12. Delivered to Mr. William Darden,
Senate Armed Services Committee staff, a copy of the original PRAVDA
newspaper article concerning Senator Russell with additional translation.
Also gave him an original copy of the newspaper SOVIET RUSSIA which had
an article in it concerning the Agency and also quotes Senator Russell. I
informed Mr. Darden of the results of my discussion with Senator Fulbright.
(See Memorandum for the Record for details) Mr. Darden advised me that
Senator Lister Hill has been appointed as a member of the CIA Subcommiteee
on the Appropriations side.
13. Talked briefly with Representative Glenard
Lipscomb with regard to the Attorney General of the State of California.
Lipscomb gave me some general thoughts but suggested, if I were in a
position to do so, I would get better information from Representative Chet
Holifield.
14. Met with Senator J. W. Fulbright to discuss
with him his letter to the Director of 20 February 1967 and also his letter to
Secretary Rusk of 27 February 1967. See Memo for the Record for details.
