pproved For Iea ` / 9R0.'9W4AA 40094-5- r' k Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Thursday - 2 February 1967 Page 3 10. Met with Representative Thomas Ashley for the purpose of assuring that, as Chairman of the International Trade Sub- committee of the House Banking and Currency Committee, he was fully aware of our dealings with Richard Cook, Minority Counsel, with regard to the inclusion of the ORR report on "The USSR: About to Enter the Automotive Age?" in an upcoming Subcommittee report. Mr. Ashley said he was fully aware of Cook's work in this regard,, that Cook was acting in accordance with instructions from him and that there was no majority/minority staff problem within the Banking and Currency Committee. He said he very much appreciated my dropping by to see him. He added that the Committee report should be ready in galley form within a few days. At that time he plans to have it send to the Agency, State Department and Commerce for review and comment prior to publication. I told Mr. Ashley we would be happy to see the galleys when they are available. The Congressman was, as usual, very friendly and in response to my query said he would like to pay the Agency another visit within the next few months. He recalled his visit to the Agency as part of a group some years ago and asked if we were still doing this. I mentioned that at the moment we were endeavoring to make contact with freshmen members to familiarize them somewhat with the Agency. The Congressman thought this was an excellent idea and thought it would be in the best interest of the Agency and the members. (Ashley was formerly employed in an executive position with Radio Free Europe.) Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, and arranged for the security procedures and control of the transcript of the briefing scheduled for 2:30, Friday, 3 February of the Gore Disarmament Subcommittee. See Memo For the Record for details. Approved For Release 2004/05/05 : CIA-RDP69B00369R000100240094-6
