Approved For Release 2004/05/05; CIA-RDP69B00369R000200020026-4 JOURNAL OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Thursday - 4 May 1967 1. (Unclassified - LLM) In the absence of Miss Guzzel, met with Mrs. Janet Schnitz, Administrative Assistant to Representative Sidney R. Yates (D., I11. ), and confirmed the limited distribution associated with the 2. (Unc- ,sified - LLM) Met with Mr. Peter Riddleberger and Mr. William Bade., :enate Foreign Relations Committee staff members. The purpose was live Riddleberger material I had earlier promised him in connection \-. __ he Katzenbach Committee report. Riddleberger said that Senator Fulbright was taking an intense and personal interest in his assignment to the Committee to study funding of voluntary organizations. Mr. Bader commented on the action by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and Inter- national Affairs as reported in today's papers indicating this was a most unfortunate turning away of needed academic contribution to the intelligence community. Bader felt the roots of the problem may be due to having the analytical and collection functions under the same roof. He volunteered that there were arguments to support the present arrangement and agreed that any problem with this was one of image and not of substance or practice. STAT 4. (Unclassified - LLM) Mary Kepecs, in the office of Senator John Sherman Cooper (R., Ky.), called regarding the status of the inquiry of CIA funding of voluntary organizations. I refreshed her memory on the Katzenbach Committee report, its acceptance by the President, and the appointment of the 18 member Rusk Committee, which includes four Senators. Miss Kepecs was pleased with this information for responding to constituent inquiries. Approved For Release 2004/05/05 : CIA-RDP69B00369R000200020026-4
