q? Cord Meyer and John S. Warner met with
Representative right Patman to explain the forthcoming RAMPARTS article.
Mr. Meyer gave a brief background on how we got into these activities and
also touched on how RAMPARTS got its information. In addition, Mr. Meyer
painted out that it is quite possible that the NEW YORK TIMES would have
something on this tomorrow and also that the WASHIIVGTON STAR would have
same parts of this story and may be publishing something soon. Mr. Patman
said he understood and certainly if these activities were approved by the
President, he would support us and da everything possible to assist. He was
requested to let us know if he had any serious approaches an this topic. I

Armed Services Committee staff, advising him that, in connection with
dates for briefings of the full Armed Services Committee, we had commit-
ments outstanding on the 15th, 16th and 21st of February. He indicated that
the moat likely date now appeared to be 28 February.

Foreign Relations Disarmament Subcommittee staff, on Pakistan, Morocco,
and Iran. The primaries of interest, political relations ap.d political
analysis, resulted in a relatively unclassified content. Mx. Bader was most
appreciative on behalf of the Chairman and expressed the ~hairman's
concern as to the difficulty of solution to many of the existing problems in
the area.
12. Met with Mr. Austin Smith, House
Appropriatsons ommittee staff, and arranged for the use of a vi.ewgraph
for the Director's briefing of the Committee.
13?~ Met with Mr. gam Scott, Senate Internal
Security Su c.~ m i ee sta~ , at his request. He advised that he is doing
a paper for Senator Dirkaen relating to the Consular Convention and
requested Agency assistance with regard to the question of treatment of
American travelers in the Soviet Union as compaxed with treatment of
others.
