CONFIDE TI L
Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2
Wednesday - 29 March 1967
4. Met with Mrs. Mitchell, in the office of
Senator Robert Griffin, and provided her with a proposed response to
correspondence relating to one deceased. I advised
Mrs. Mitchell that our checks had indicated that had not been
associated with the Agency. No written response to the Senator's transmittal
note is required. Should any further inquiry be received from the parents
concerning the supposed association of their deceased son with the Agency,
Mrs. Mitchell will call me.
5. Mr. Ernest Baynard, Staff
CC IFICENTI AL
Assistant, House Subcommittee on Government Activities, called about
reports concerning possible fraud by contractors in connection with painting
of Federal buildings. Baynard said the Agency Headquarters building had
been mentioned in this connection and he would like to talk tomorrow
morning with the official within the Agency who is most directly connected
with the supervision of the painting of the Headquarters building. Apparently
the alleged fraud relates to the number of coats of paint contracted for
and the number actually put on by the painting contractor and Baynard is
hopeful that our physical security monitoring of deliveries to and from our
Headquarters site would reveal the exact quantit of paint used by the painting
contractor. Office of Logistics,
were alerted to tis inquiry.
