3. Miss Laser, in the office of Representative
Samuel Friedel (D.-, Md.), called to ask if the Agency had published a study
on mainland China. I informed her that she probably has in mind the
two volume study prepared by the Joint Economic Committee and suggested
she get in touch with them. She thanked me for this information.
4. Jay Sourwine, Senate Internal Security
Subcommittee staff, called and said Senators Eastland, Thurmond, and
possibly Hruska, would like to have a briefing on Cuban infiltration of Latin
America. Sourwine would like to have himself, Frank Schroeder, and
Ben Mandel also in attendance. Invitations would be issued to the entire
membership of the subcommittee, but probably only the three would attend.
The briefing would be in a closed session. The Senators desire the briefing
in view of conflicting testimony received from witnesses to date in order to
determine the future thrust of their hearings. I told Sourwine I thought we
might be able to do something for him, but would first have to check and
then report back.
5. Talked to who was referred
to the Agency by Speaker McCormack's office. wished advice concerning
his future activities in certain Arab countries. See memorandum for the
record.
