MEMORANDUM FOR THE DIRECTOR:
This memorandum recommends action in Paragraph
1. Recommend that you talk mainly on International C=m;; nism in
your 16 February 1957 talk in Chicago.
2. In the DDP area there is a classified compilation Ihowing
what have been the effects on the Communist Party in Franco,j Italy,
etc., as a result of Kruschev's anti-Stalinist address at the 20th
C.P. Conference. That section of the DDP area could do an t.p-to-
date report, unclassified, that could be the basis of your talk.
3. Poland, too, is a vital subject in Chicago. Therelare over
500,000 foreign-born whites in Chicago. The largest group 4.s the
Polish one -- 94,000. Next come the Germans, 56,000, and tle Russians
(people from the area now known as the USSR) -- 52,000. There are
51j,000 Italians. There are 214,000 Czechs; 21,000 Austriansp 13,000
Greeks and 13,000 Hungarians; there are 5,000 Rumanians; 10;,000
Yugoslavs; and 29,000 Irish.
4. Attached are some ideas for such a speech.
