F Approved For Release 2001/08/20: CIA-RDP70-00058ROO WAS H ING ON S rA0 Of Secret Nazi Talks Dulles TeHs JUN 2 5 1966 NEW YORK (AP) - Secre details of negotiations with Naz generals that led to the surren der of nearly a million German in Italy at the close of Worl `War II are disclosed in a curren magazine article by Allen W Dulles, former U.S. intelligent chief. Office of Strategic Service (OSS) in Switzerland during th war. The OSS was succeede lately by the Central Intelligenc 'Agency. Dulles became it director, retiring in 1961. Dulles writes in the July Issu of Harper's, as excerpted fro his forthcoming book, "Th Secret Surrender;" that he too the responsibility and initiativ to respond to direct surrende probes from Gen. Karl F. Wolff commander of the German 'S (Elite Guard) forces in Italy. He said secrecy had to b :maintained so the Allied govern ments could disavow him if the . negotiations backfired, because a trap was being planned by the Nazis to split Russia and he Allies: The surrender probes bega coming at the end of Februar 1945, Dulles wrote, and culmi nated, with' the surrender. o almost 'a million' Germans Dulles was chief of the U.S .'
